Growing from Crises
CJ Liu interviews Christine R. Page, MD on her book “The Heart of the Great Mother: Spiritual Initiation, Creativity, and Rebirth.” This interview has been split into four short, digestible segments.
Part 1: Crises: Evolve and Dissolve
In Part 1, Christine tells CJ about a journey in which she learned about a life cycle that started in 2012 when the world world end. Christine explains that we are now in the the stage of letting go of the old and allowing the birth of something new to begin. While the world around us has shifted during COVID-19, there is a part of us that wants to go back to our “caterpillar” form. Our ego wants to go back to what is familiar. However, our soul wants us to let go. The challenge right now is how we learn to “dissolve to evolve.” The choice is ours.
Part 2: Crises Evolves the Heart
In Part 2, Christine describes the evolutionary process that happens in natures timing and that we cannot rush. Christine writes that as we go through this transformational stage, it can feel unstructured and confusing with the past complete and the future still to be born. During this time, it’s important to listen to your heart, which speaks through your intuition and the power of love.
Christine describes our soul as a seed that has been planted in the soil and grows as a flower. Life has a set of experiences and phases that take the seed on a cycle of growth. She asks us to envision a flower with a center point (the heart) and pedals. Your experiences take you out into the world away from the center of the flower. These life experiences are like pedals of a flower. We travel the circumference of the pedal in a circular pattern and then back to center of the flower once the experience is completed. These experiences offer a way for us to move out and discover, or uncover parts of ourselves.
Christine explains that each life opportunity, like the COVID-19 crises, calls us back to the center. As we circle back, we take the wisdom and feed it back into the center (the heart) so that we can grow stronger, allowing the pedal to then drop. Each of theses experiences brings us to a place of wholeness. We are able to call home those parts of us that have been separated and find a way to reunite with our lost parts.
Part 3: Finding Unity in Diversity
In Part 3, CJ and Christine touch on the unity that can be found in individuals, groups and communities during crises. With many people sharing a common experience, it can at times bring unity.
Part 4:
Christine explains that life goes through a creative process that can be explained by the Triple Goddess. Life is a continuum. For example, the Virgin correlates to Spring. This is when we start new projects and give birth to new things. After the baby is born, the the Mother archetype is there during Summer and Fall to take care and harvest what has been created. Finally, it is the Crone that comes in late fall and winter to destroy and bring everything back to the soil. This Goddess invites us to enter her fiery cauldron to recover the gems of wisdom from all of our creations over the past. The Dark Goddess is part of a trinity that makes up the Great Mother.
Currently, we are in the “Dark Goddess” or Crone stage of a cycle. This is often felt as a challenging stage and one we might want to escape. Christine explains how to navigate this stage. As the old structures break down, we need to go into darkness and come back to our core. As we gather our energy, we have the strength to create a new future. This is a future where you come back to yourself.
