The Technology of Intention
CJ Liu interviews Kim Stanwood Terranova about her book, “The Technology of Intention.”
Part 1
Kim shares how she navigated her life being turned upside down. During the California fires, Kim lost her house and retreat center. She is now living in an RV on her property. Kim shares how she remained present and kept her energy centered using the Power of Intention. She explains that practices will be unique for each person. For some, it may be meditation, prayer, etc. Kim’s practice was running on her property and feeling her feet grounded on earth.
Part 2
Kim shares how she navigated the grief from losing her house during the California fires. While many people deny or minimize their losses, Kim cautions not to spiritual by-pass. During her loss, Kim would burst into tears and hold herself in gentleness. She learned how to authentically answer, “How are you?” and ask for help from her friends. When she didn’t feel held, she would write her feelings in a journal so that she could process whatever was arising. Kim advises that you ask for help, or hire someone to support you if you fear that you will spiral downward into a pit of despair. During her hardship, Kim asked Spirit for daily intentions.
Part 3
Kim explains how intentions are different than goals. Intentions are about lasering in on the qualities we want, putting them out there and asking the universe to provide. It’s a co-creative process. This is in contrast to goal setting where are managing to an outcome. During this segment, Kim shares what qualities may be helpful during these polarized times. Many are feeling anger, rage, or judgement towards others. She shares how we can react when we find the news, a campaign sign, or anything that may cause us to get angry.
Part 4
During this segment, Kim shares what qualities may be helpful to address the many fears that we may encounter. These fears include fear of votes not being counted, fear of change, or fear of traveling. Kim shares how we can bring the qualities of trust, staying strong, centered and safe into our daily activities.
